Once you add to that, the accessibility to the main motorways linking the Vendée and the Deux-Sèvres departments to the channel ports, and the existence of the airports at Nantes, La Rochelle and Poitiers, all within 1 - 1½ hours drive, and all extremely well served from various U.K. airports, the choice is obvious!

The Agency is situated on the main square in the delightful small market town of Coulonges-sur-l'Autize, in the department of the Deux-Sèvres, but a couple of kilometres from the border with the department of the Vendée.  So we have the best of both worlds! The South-East corner of the Pays de la Loire region and the North West corner of the Poitou Charentes region!

We purchased our house in 1998, and came to the area with children of primary school age, who are now at college with the oldest about to embark on life at "lycée" attended from the age  of 15 - 18; the education system has both delighted and impressed us at every stage.

We joined the French health system, and again found delight and amazement at how efficient and helpful everyone is - and although as the saying goes "you get what you pay for" , in general, we have found that the benefits and advantages certainly more than compensate for any outlay or disadvantages.

We also set up a holiday letting business within the first year of being here, and are about to enter our 6th summer season!

All of this we learned the hard way!
